How Your Solicitor Can Help You During COVID-19 Lockdown

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Lockdown

There are very few businesses around the world that haven't been affected in some way this year by COVID-19.  The majority of citizens are doing complying with their Government's instructions to stay at home and only go out when it is necessary to buy food or to go to work.
We are putting off buying new clothes and booking holidays and instead saving our money until we know our jobs are safe and we can go out again.

Legal Affairs

We would urge you not to put off sorting out your legal affairs at this time.  If something needs to be done, then it is important to get it sorted out now before it is too late.  Although law offices are closed, most lawyers and solicitors are working from home. All our solicitors at ELP Arbuthnott McClanachan are working from home and will be delighted to offer you expert legal advice.
Wills
If you have been meaning to update your Will or write a Will for ages but have never had the time, then please get it done now.  In Scotland, we can complete a legal Will by video communication.  No matter how small or large your Estate is, having a Will is extremely important to ensure that your loved ones inherit all that you own. Without a Will, it can mean extra stress and costs for your loved ones.

Power of Attorney
Power of Attorney is a document which appoints one or more trusted individuals to act on your behalf. It is possible to grant a Power of Attorney in relation to financial matters only, or in relation to issues affecting your welfare, or to grant a joint financial and welfare Power of Attorney. It is best to set up a Power of Attorney whilst you are fit and healthy as it cannot be granted if you are unable to give instructions, whether due to a physical illness or a mental condition. Again, we are able to complete a Power of Attorney instruction by video communication.
Employment Law
Understandably, many people are worried about their jobs and their businesses at this time. Governments around the world are trying to help but the legislation can be confusing.  Specialist employment lawyers are keeping up to date with the latest legislation so that they can help their clients. Instead of getting very stressed and worried please get in touch with your local employment lawyer to see how they can help you.
At ELP Arbuthnott McClanachan in Edinburgh, we have written a COVID-19 statement explaining how our legal services can be carried out at this time.  We wish you all good health.  Stay safe and look after yourselves and each other.
